What to see in Ischia / City of Barano - Hotel Villa Carolina

Pilastri Aqueduct

The story of the construction of this aqueduct is particular, as much as this monument is important to the Ischia isle : indeed, it was built on the sacrifice of the isle’s inhabitants, who had to endure a heavy tax on grains to ensure its construction.

To recall this sour fact and to honour the water channels that have been used to supply the whole isle, a marble block was set to remind everyone of the sacrifice implied to get the water and thus that it should be used wisely.
